Events are held in the city of Baltimore at price points at or below a night out with your friends. In the common situation where Shalom Social Club is joining a larger event just look for black and white balloons and/or our double-arch logo at the venue to find our people.
While we are from a variety of backgrounds, Shalom Social Club strives to be inclusive. To that end, we adhere to the following guidelines:
Limit events scheduled on Shabbat, from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday night.
While not everyone Jewish is religious, the event schedule aims to compliment and not conflict with Jewish holiday observance.
Vegetarian and ingredient-kosher food options will be available at all venues.
Estimated costs for events won't exceed that of your average date or night out with friends without advance notice.
Whether you are a Jew-by-choice, conservative, reform, or just Jew-ish, we look forward to welcoming you and yours at a gathering soon.
1. Respect and Kindness First
Our community is built on respect, empathy, and kindness. Racism, misogyny, transphobia, and any form of discrimination or hate speech will not be tolerated in any SSC space. Speak for yourself and approach disagreements with curiosity, understanding that we all come from different experiences.
Protect your peace: If you feel triggered, take a break from the conversation or mute the chat.
Keep your language respectful—avoid inflammatory or hurtful comments.
2. Quality of Interaction
Our goal is to foster meaningful, thoughtful conversations. Low-effort posts, links without context, and memes that don’t add value will be removed.
When sharing articles or videos, provide context to explain why it’s worth checking out.
Be mindful of how much you post—don’t overwhelm others with too much content.
3. Conflict Resolution
Disagreements happen, but how we handle them is crucial. If an issue arises, address it privately and respectfully. If you can’t resolve it on your own, reach out to a moderator or Lindsay for support.
Always aim to resolve conflicts one-on-one, rather than airing grievances in the group.
4. Transparency in Subgroups
All subgroups must be open to everyone in the community. We believe inclusivity is one of SSC's strengths, so exclusion from any subgroup goes against our values. The Kibbitzing chat is for apolitical discussion with one exception: current events may be shared, non-pluralistic rallies and events may be promoted from all perspectives on Israel and the war. Discussion of those issues belong outside of the main chat.
Subgroups must have at least two admins in addition to Lindsay.
Subgroups may be added and removed to meet community needs.
5. Moderation and Removal Policy
To maintain a safe and respectful space, any harmful behavior (personal attacks, discriminatory language, etc.) will be addressed. If necessary, a member may be temporarily removed for reflection, with the possibility of rejoining once they agree to respect the guidelines.
6. Handle Issues Personally and Respectfully
If you have an issue with someone’s message, reach out privately instead of engaging in public conflict. Direct communication is always more productive than airing concerns in the group and drops the quality of discussion. If needed, contact Lindsay or a moderator for help. We’re here to ensure that everyone feels comfortable. Our moderation team currently includes Michael, Esther,
7. Be Welcoming
SSC is about building real, meaningful connections. Whether online or in person, let’s work together to create a warm, welcoming environment for everyone.
Life can be lonely—use SSC as a space to connect, share, and support each other.
We are thankful to Lindsay and all volunteers who dedicate their time and effort to making SSC special.
Final Thoughts
Our community’s strength lies in the effort we all put into it. Let’s keep SSC a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive space for all. If you ever have questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to reach out!
